[ her eyes drift to his fingers, where he tucks the strand of hair behind her ear with no small amount of determination. with his fingers this close, she catches herself checking the skin, his fingertips, him - but upon realizing what she's doing, yennefer turns her attention back to him.

as he describes the incident and steps back away from her, yennefer doesn't close the distance, despite how the urge in her is to do just that. to reach back for him, to keep him close enough that her hands can hold him here. she knows it's not real, though she finds herself needing a reminder - that no matter how that protective urge fills her chest, how much she wants to tell him that he's safe, that it's fine, that she'll fix it, the words do not come.

instead, as he describes the shield and the pieces that made it through, she does not hide the confusion in her eyes. the way her nose scrunches just so as she tries to place what he's describing with what she knows. ]

It was deliberate, yes. Someone wanted to hit all the factions simultaneously. But...mine was a cloud- some sort of noxious gas, poisonous. A spell had reacted to it, a shield to hold off the worst of it, and it worked at first, but- [ that's when her confusion slips to one of realization, of acceptance. a kind of oh as her eyes fall from jaskier to somewhere else.

oh. oh. acceptance flits from surprise to something not quite anger, because really, can she be surprised? of course whatever protective spell thorne had on her was corrupted. or perhaps it had been grigory's intention, for the spell to fail, for her not to survive it. (a lot of good that did him, all things considered) yennefer takes a breath, her eyes going back to jaskier, to the panic curling in his voice. ]

Jaskier- [ this is when she steps forward, her hands going to his wrists or his forearms. ] The Queen blames the Cities- I did not hear much, as soon as I was awake I reached out to you, but Ellya has all the proof she needs, now. [ she won't know to what degree, yet. she may in a day or so. in her panic to make sure he was safe she hadn't paid much attention to the castle rumors - which, she thinks now, had been a mistake. she needs more information, but she has so little. ] You're safe, aren't you? Wherever it is they're healing you?
